A moment in time.

My lovely Mother surprised me with this Marilyn Monroe portrait yesterday. I had a pretty rough day and it put a huge smile on my face. Little things like this remind me of how lucky I am to always have my Mom in my corner. As tough as things are in life, at the end of the day we always have each other.

CFDA Awards Review

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards took place this past week at Lincoln Center and these were just some of my favorite looks that were there. Among them were Blake Lively whoa stole the spotlight yet again in a hot pink Michael Kors number. Is it just me or does she always look so bright and happy? I keep noticing Diane Kruger in all the fashion columns lately always wearing something somewhat unusual but extremely fashion forward. She wore Jason Wu and there is something about this dress that normally wouldn't appeal to me but seeing it on her I keep looking again and again. The sleeves bothered me a bit but as I kept looking I fell more and more in love with it. Whitney Port was also one of my favorites. I feel like when she was on The Hills she was pretty simple and plain, and since moving to "The City" she has become quite a risk taker! I Love it! She wore a Luca Luca gown, but it's her hair and make-up that I really love...

Classic.

"I'm not interested in money, I just want to be ..Wonderful*."
-Marilyn Monroe

So for as long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with anything Marilyn Monroe. I have several portraits of her around my room and I've been collecting books about her for years. The only thing I was missing out on this whole time were her movies! I know it sounds crazy, but I was never into old movies. Anyway being the insane clothes fanatic that I am my mom mentioned The Seven Year Itch being on so thanks to DVR I was able to sit and watch it after class the other day. I actually enjoyed the movie! Not only that but the dresses she wore were fabulous! She herself made all the clothes look impeccable and timeless which I feel is very rare these days. The movie was made in 1955 so its now the oldest movie I've ever watched, and I plan on seeing many more! TCM frequently plays most of her films so I'm looking forward to catching up on them now. =) Anyway seeing her in action just confirmed what I had suspected all along.. she really was the most GORGEOUS creature to walk the planet.
Her style + beauty is often imitated, but never duplicated.
